Poetess; like her poet brother Harindranath Chattopadhyay, inherited the talent from her parents; The Golden Threshold (1905), The Broken Wing (1917) and The Sceptred Flute (1937) are the three collections of her poems; popularly known as 'Nightingale of India'; Congress President in 1925; participated in Salt Satyagraha of 1930; accompanied Gandhiji to Round Table Conference in 1931; arrested on the night of August 8, 1942 along with Gandhiji and placed with him in Aga Khan Palace; was Governor of Uttar Pradesh in free India.
